Frequently Asked Questions

			CLOSE ACCORDIONS
Do I need any martial arts experience to start?
No. Aikido is beginner-friendly and welcomes all levels.
What should I wear to class?
Loose, comfortable clothing is fine (T-shirt/Sweat Pants – no shorts, no jeans) . Uniforms can be purchased later.
Do you teach kids?
Unfortunately, we no longer have a youth program and do not teach kids at this time. Teenagers can join the adult class at around age 14-15.
Is Aikido effective for self-defense?
Yes. Aikido teaches awareness, redirection, and non-violent self-defense.
What if I’m not very flexible or in shape?
No problem. Aikido helps build fitness at your own pace.
How often should I train?
We recommend 2–3 times per week, but any attendance is beneficial.
Are there tests or ranks?
Yes. Aikido includes a ranking system through demonstration and consistent practice.
Is there a spiritual or meditative component?
Yes. Breathwork, mindfulness, and presence are integral parts of training.
What is a typical class like?
You’ll begin with warm-up and stretching exercises to prepare for training. The instructor then demonstrates techniques that you will practice with your partner throughout the training session.
Is it easy to get hurt?
Not at all! You’ll be training in an extremely supportive safe environment. While injuries happen from time to time (just like with any activity), they’re the exception, not the rule.
What Our Students Are Saying

“Aikido changed how I move, how I breathe, and how I deal with stress. It’s more than a martial art—it’s a way of being.”
I’ve been training here off and on for years, and I’ll keep going back because of the great community & the real value that training adds to my life.
