What if you could increase your mental focus, lose weight, and get fit, while learning self-defense skills, all in the same amount of time it takes to work out at the gym?
But that's just the beginning. Aikido has lessons that apply to all aspects of life. Training in Aikido will give you a happier, de-stressed, meaningful life!
Hi, I'm Todd Roberts, chief instructor at Aikido of Nebraska. Some folks believe that martial arts is nothing more than kicking, punching, and learning how to fight.
It's not that at all. It is more. A lot more.
Come join me, and in a few short weeks you will see that you are getting a great workout, de-stressing, and having a
TON of fun! But more importantly you will see that Aikido is about helping each other out to DO YOUR BEST, physically, mentally and emotionally.
"Why Do I Want To Do Aikido?"
Our Techniques are Different.
We look and feel different than a typical martial arts school. The moment you walk in the door, you will see that our
techniques do not look like other schools. They're circular. They're dynamic. The reason our techniques look different is
because Aikido is not a strength-based art. You learn to use the attacker's momentum against them.
You learn how to protect yourself without aggression, and without strength. There are no competitions or sparring at
our school. The only one you will be competing against is yourself. .
Because there is no competitions, no one is trying to "show off" or "out-do" the next guy. Everyone just wants
to learn and grow and help each other out.
You Will Get An Awesome Workout
Have some weight you want to take off? Or, just want to feel the extra energy that comes with having a
body in excellent shape? Aikido uses every part of your body - which means that every time you come, you will get a full body workout. Those extra pounds will come off in no time, and before you know it, you will be a lean, flexible and powerful machine.
You will Learn Real-World Self Defense
You will learn how to defend yourself in real-life situations. And I can tell you right now our members will have a story or two about how they used their Aikido out in the real world.
You Will Work With Like-Minded People.
Every style of martial art is different. Aikido however, is one of those styles that you can't practice alone - you need a partner. Actually you will work with many different partners. As you train, you will form and unshakable bond with everyone you practice with. You’ll support each other - and push each other past any limits you think you have. With your Aikido family on your side, you can (and will) accomplish anything!
You'll De-Stress and Have a TON of Fun!
Not one of us needs another "chore" in life. Even in Aikido practice, too much work is simply unpleasant. When an activity is all serious focus and hard work, it is easy to burn out. We believe that when something is fun you will stick with it longer, and enjoy it even more. Every class is filled with smiles and laughter. You'll make friends, enjoy your time, and walk out happier than you came in.
Its So Much Fun Its Addicting . . .

Calm and Balance . . .
If it is your first class or your first time meeting Sensei Roberts, you cannot help to notice that his dedication, passion and commitment to the traditional style of martial arts is unparalleled. I have studied karate before, and without a doubt I made the right decision to begin training in Aikido and an even smarter decision choosing to learn from Sensei Roberts. I felt welcomed the first time I came to class. I attribute this to Sensei Roberts and the environment he has created with his students. Every student helps one another with the common goal to succeed and continue to learn and grow in their study of Aikido. You instantly get the feeling that Sensei Roberts is doing this for his love of the martial arts and not for the love of money.
It's Not What I thought . . .
I've been training at Gambatte Dojo for just over a year. The quality of training is excellent, and Sensei Roberts
adjusts his style and focus to meet the needs of his students. He always has time for a question, or to help someone review
a difficult technique, and he excels at keeping the class both fun and challenging. My only qualm? Um...I'll get back to
you when I think of one .
I finally got in shape. . .
I know a lot of people take Martial Arts for self-defense... But to be honest my main goal was to lose some weight and get fit. I never liked going to the gym - I would get bored quickly. Believe me; you WILL get fit with this! I can already see the weight coming right off! Every class is full of great muscle-building and fat-burning workouts. And as an added bonus, I now know how to defend myself.
It's the best of both worlds. Whether you're looking to lose weight, or for self-defense, this is an awesome deal.
Q: What kind of shape do I need to be in for Aikido?
A: You can start Aikido no matter what kind of shape you're in. Because it's a great workout, you'll get in
awesome shape in no time.
Q: Is it easy to get hurt?
A: Not at all! You'll be training in an extremely supportive safe environment. No one wants to hurt another - and no one wants to get hurt. While injuries happen from time to time (just like with any activity), they're the exception, not the rule.
Q: What is a typical class like?
A: You'll begin with warm-up and stretching exercises to prepare for training. The instructor then demonstrates
techniques that you will practice with your partner throughout the training session.
Q: Is Aikido agressive/violent?
A: No! The philosophies and techniques behind Aikido revolve around non-aggression and harmony. The moves are more of a
way to become coordinated with your own body. We teach respect and compassion. However, if a violent situation ever arises,
you will have powerful tools to protect yourself and your loved ones.
Q: Is Aikido for women too?
A: Absolutely! While the majority of our Aikido students are men, there are many women who come in and have an awesome
experience too. In Fact - here is something the guys wish I wouldn't tell you - women tend to progress faster than the
guys do, because they learn to do their techniques without strength.
So How Do I Get Started?
